DBT has an exciting and challenging honours and public appointments agenda. We are one of the largest contributors to the UK Honours system, uniquely represented on two Honours Committees by the DBT Permanent Secretary (the Economy and FCDO Committees). We continue to implement ambitious plans to improve the spread and diversity of honours across society and DBT stakeholders. Streamlining and modernising how we initiate, nurture, and decide honours nominations—engaging with stakeholders across the department and beyond—is key to our success.The DBT Honours team plays a pivotal role in generating high-quality, worthy honours nominations across the business and trade community, and in enhancing the wider honours system through active engagement and shaping the Economy Committee. DBT manages one of the largest appointments portfolios in government, responsible for over 300 public appointments and over 500 other ministerial appointments across various bodies and roles.As the government refreshes its strategy for public appointments, our role in the DBT appointments team is critical in shaping a more diverse, transparent, and technology-enabled process with candidate care at its core. In the last year, the team has successfully enabled the department to appoint high-calibre individuals to key positions, both new and longstanding. Moving forward, we aim to build on this success by harnessing technology—including the government''s Appointments Tracking System (ATS) and AI—to drive greater outcomes through streamlined processes.This new role reflects the growing importance of public appointments and honours in helping DBT achieve its ambition to drive UK economic growth. The postholder will lead an existing team through an exciting transformation, leveraging technology and modern working methods to enhance performance. Leading the team through ambiguity and change, maintaining high-quality services for senior stakeholders, and working independently with sound judgement will be essential.The key responsibilities include:Overseeing the development of a new operating framework for DBT public appointments, ensuring alignment with government strategies and engaging stakeholders across the department and beyond.Developing and delivering an enhanced programme to streamline honours and appointments processes, with a focus on technology and data-driven improvements.Creating a clear plan for delivering honours and appointments work programmes, with effective communication and engagement with senior leaders and candidate care at the forefront.Building team capability and capacity to meet ambitious goals within budget constraints.Maintaining and enhancing the quality of service and professional advice to senior stakeholders, including Ministers and officials.Providing leadership and direction to a high-performing, engaged team.Acting as a key member of the senior leadership team, contributing to governance, strategy, and private office functions.Disability Confident: A Disability Confident employer will generally offer an interview to any applicant declaring a disability who meets the minimum criteria.
