Main duties of the job

The post-holder will make themselves available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, video consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation or external organisations.

Assessing the health needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Job responsibilitiesARRS Scheme Salaried General Practitioner

Key Clinical Responsibilities:

The post-holder will practice in accordance with accepted good medical practice and the various clinical policies of the Service, including but not limited to:

The post-holder will undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations, video consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation or external organisations.

Assessing the health needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Contributing to QOF, Enhanced Services and IIF requirements and recording data appropriately

Developing care plans for health-related illnesses in consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols

Screening patients for health education

Managing admissions/discharges and referrals as appropriate

Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards

Collecting data for audit and contributing to the practice audit programme

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions

Prescribing in accordance with the formulary (or generically) when appropriate

Taking a lead role in aspects of clinical work within the team (governance, QOF, enhanced services, CPD and updating protocols)

Undertaking duties typical of a GP in primary care as set by relevant professional bodies and regulators

QualityThe post-holder will strive to maintain quality within the practice and will:

Alert team members to quality and risk issues

Assess own performance and take accountability for own actions

Contribute to team effectiveness and service improvement

Work effectively with other agencies to meet patient needs

Manage time, workload and resources

Prescribe safely and effectively in line with NICE guidance and DH directives

Operate safe management and regular review for all patients on repeat prescriptions

Comply with prescribing budgets and related targets

Support patient referrals with appropriate information for proper assessment

Support complaints policies and follow-up actions as required

Contributing to service development and contract implementation

Awareness of and compliance with relevant policies/guidelines

Commitment to lifelong learning and audit

Participating in clinical meetings and contributing to policy development

Reading and coding patient data

Attending training events and team meetings as needed

Post-holders may have access to confidential information and must handle it in accordance with policies

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of guidelines and implement across the business

Undertake periodic infection control training (minimum annually)

Newly qualified to fulfil funding requirement of role (within 2 years of qualification) and not held a salaried GP post since qualification
