An exciting vacancy has become available which involves working within extended roles including the medical retina, injection and post-operative cataract clinics across Whipps Cross and Newham sites with potential core optometry sessions. We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Optometrist to join our teams.

The post-holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary Optometry and Ophthalmology teams that provide comprehensive and quality ophthalmology services for the Trust.

Responsibilities

To participate in core optometry clinics including specialist contact lenses and paediatrics

To participate in the delivery of the ophthalmology service in the areas of Medical Retina and injection services

To participate in the eye emergency services

To participate in glaucoma clinics

To participate in cataract and post op cataract clinics as well as virtual clinics

To participate in the delivery of highly specialist ophthalmic services and extended roles that meet the changing needs of the department

Community eye service experience

Sound clinical experience and judgment underpinned by specialist theoretical knowledge base

Knowledge/understanding of the optometry profession

Desirable

Hospital ophthalmology clinical attachment or experience elsewhere

Teaching experience

Audit experience

Research experience

SkillsEssential

Ability to offer super-user status on at least one aspect of specialist optometric instrumentation and/or to undertake extended clinical role

Empathy and professionalism throughout patient consultations; ability to deliver sound clinical outcomes in complex or distressing situations

Ability to analyse and prioritise complex medical information to devise specialist care plans

Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

Ability to pass on knowledge and deliver training

Flexible and reliable approach to working patterns

Ability to manage moderate to intense effort and concurrent activities with interruptions

Commitment to non-discriminatory practice

Professional approach in difficult or emotional situations

Knowledge

Developed knowledge of current best practice in Optometry in the relevant setting

Understanding legal responsibilities and code of ethics

QualificationsEssential

Registration with the General Optical Council (GOC)

Desirable

Further postgraduate Optometric qualification relating to highly specialist aspects of clinical and technical expertise

MOptom (Master of Optometry) specialist optometry degree
