The closing date is 16 October 2025University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust currently has an opening for a full time substantive consultant post for Head and Neck skin Oncology and reconstruction to join our skin oncology Multidisciplinary team. We are particularly looking for enthusiastic individuals with keen interest in working as MDT with experience in managing head and neck skin oncology, facial palsy reconstruction, lateral skull base reconstruction. University Hospital Birmingham is the Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery Centre for the West Midlands providing adult services in Burns, Hand Surgery, Breast Reconstruction, Skin Oncology, Lower Limb Trauma, Sarcoma and Head and Neck surgery.The successful applicant will be on the Plastic Surgery on-call rota at University Hospital Birmingham, the major trauma centre in the West Midlands. The on-call commitments are one in ten weeks, where the postholder will be managing Plastic Surgery emergencies including microsurgical lower limb reconstruction and work closely with Orthopaedic colleagues.Main duties of the job
This is a substantive full time (10 PA) post. The post holder will work as a member of a team of Consultant Plastic Surgeons, based at the University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust with opportunities to have commitments in Solihull Hospital.Job Plan will Include:Outpatient clinic sessionsSpecialist Skin oncology MDT meeting and Joint Skin Oncology Clinics (JSOC)Theatre sessions to independently perform primary and metastatic Head and Neck skin cancers including Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy, Comprehensive neck dissections and different types of reconstruction including microsurgical reconstruction.Support with Lateral skull base reconstructionsSupport with Facial Palsy ClinicThe successful applicant will join a multi-disciplinary team with the highest standards of clinical care. They will act as part of the wider plastic surgery team as well as part of the sub-speciality multidisciplinary teams.About us

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to departmental teaching and support juniors with projects leading to publications and presentations. Funding is available for approved study leave as defined in the Trust study leave policy. The involvement in continuing medical education is an integral part of the advertised post and as such, the successful candidate will be expected to support recruitment to clinical trials and practice evidence-based medicine. The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of clinical governance as developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Working as part of Skin oncology MDT and Plastics Head and Neck Reconstructive surgery team. This work can be based in either at Queen Elizabeth Hospital or at Solihull Hospital.The post holder will also provide support for Lateral skull base reconstructions on a rotational basis.The post holder will provide support to Facial Palsy clinic and reconstructions on a rotational basis.The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to departmental teaching and support juniors with projects leading to publications and presentations. Funding is available for approved study leave as defined in the Trust study leave policy.The post holders will be expected to participate in the Specialist Skin cancer MDT and departmental consultant meetings and partake in audits, quality improvement projects and clinical governance, as well as continuing professional development.The on-all duties are one in ten at Queen Elizabeth HospitalThe involvement in continuing medical education is an integral part of the advertised post and as such, the successful candidate will be expected to support recruitment to clinical trials and practice evidence-based medicine.The appointee will be expected to participate in all aspects of clinical governance as developed by the Trust to monitor, maintain and develop the quality and effectiveness of care.The Trust is committed to the development and maintenance of the highest clinical standards through individual appraisal. Qualifications
Full registration with the General Medical Council GMC, with licence to practice.FRCS(Plast) or equivalentOn the GMC Specialist Register in Plastic Surgery Or CCT in plastic surgery within 6 months at time of interviewDisclosure and Barring Service Check
