Senior Biomedical Scientist Haematology and Training Lead

OverviewThe successful applicant will be required to perform a range of advanced healthcare science clinical activities and provide highly specialised advice within own Department. You will lead a team of Healthcare Scientists and Healthcare Science Support Workers for your own work area and provide training. This post also holds additional responsibility as a Training Lead for the Department. Travel between sites as required with a primary base of Medway Maritime Hospital. In partnership with Beckman Coulter UK (BCUK) our newly designed and refurbished pathology laboratory houses a range of equipment including: Beckman Coulter DxH 900 Analysers and SMS2, IL(Werfen) TOP 700 and TOP 550 coagulation analysers and Bio-Rad Variant II for Haemoglobinopathy screening. In addition to supporting apprenticeships, work experience, Certificates of Expert Practice and other qualifications. Managing the routine work and staff rota''s of the Haematology laboratory in conjunction with the other Haematology and Blood Transfusion seniors.
Responsibilities
Lead a team of Healthcare Scientists and Healthcare Science Support Workers for your own work area and provide training.
Hold Training Lead responsibility for the Department.
Travel between sites as required with a primary base of Medway Maritime Hospital.
Participate in partnership with Beckman Coulter UK (BCUK) and support the operation of the pathology laboratory equipment listed in the overview.
Deliver Training within Haematology including management of registration portfolios, specialist portfolios and support for higher specialist and Masters; support apprenticeships, work experience, Certificates of Expert Practice and other qualifications.
Manage routine work and staff rosters of the Haematology laboratory in conjunction with other Haematology and Blood Transfusion seniors.
Oversee the provision of a high quality Haematology service to the Dartford and Gravesham NHS Trust, Medway NHS Foundation Trust and PCT; ensure 24/7 Haematology service at Darent Valley and Medway Maritime Hospitals (potential cross-site work and out-of-hours shifts).
Ensure staff and visitors follow departmental policies and procedures.
Develop the service, including participation in the Kent and Medway Pathology Network programmes; provide advice on Haematology matters within the scope of knowledge.
Discuss significantly abnormal results with the Consultant Haematologist and other clinicians; maintain good housekeeping and analyser troubleshooting.
Maintain adequate stocks and ensure efficient use of reagents and consumables.
Prepare Standard Operating Procedures to meet UKAS Accreditation requirements and to meet BSH guidelines; review these regularly to maintain standards.
