Estimator - Job Overview
- Analyse tender drawings, specifications, and client requirements
- Carry out take-offs from drawings and, where required, site measurements
- Assist in pricing works including labour, plant, and materials
- Support the preparation and submission of competitive tenders
- Identify risks and commercial opportunities within tender submissions
- Review and flag onerous contract terms to senior team members
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
- Assist in preparing tender packages and negotiating supplier quotes
- Maintain accurate cost databases and estimating records
- Provide general support to the estimating and sales teams
Estimator - Job Requirements
- Previous experience in an estimating or commercial support role (ideally within civils, surfacing, or construction)
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Ability to interpret drawings and specifications
- Good understanding of construction materials, labour, and pricing principles
- Excellent organisation and time management skills
- Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships with stakeholders
- Proactive attitude with a willingness to learn and develop
