Go back Cardiff and Vale University Health BoardConsultant Paediatric CardiologistThe closing date is 05 October 2025An exciting opportunity has arisen for the post of Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist within the Tertiary Paediatric Cardiology Service for South, West and Mid Wales based at the Children''s Hospital for Wales in Cardiff.The Paediatric Cardiology service provides a tertiary medical service for the South Wales region for children who suffer with congenital heart disease. We are a non-surgical (level 2) centre with strong professional links with Bristol Children''s Hospital as our surgical centre. Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.

Responsibilities

The post holder will join a team of enthusiastic cardiologists and will have the opportunity to play a key role in further development of the service. The appointee will be an important member of the South West and South Wales Network for Paediatric cardiology and will be expected to take an active interest in network activities and engage with all the paediatricians from the referral hospitals in the area.Academic interests will be encouraged; research and teaching in collaboration with Cardiff University''s School of Medicine will be expected.Although this post is full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.

Qualifications

On GMC Specialist Register for Paediatric Cardiology* / Specialty Registrar with CCT due within 6 months of interview date OR On Specialist Register for Paediatrics* with evidence of equivalent training and experience to the level of a UK-based Consultant Paediatric Cardiologist (* note that Portfolio Pathway applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the point of application)MRCP / MRCPCH or equivalentValid Level 3 Safeguarding trainingExperience

Broad training and expertise in paediatric echocardiographyTraining in sub-speciality complimentary to the existing team eg: Fetal CardiologySkills

Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary workingEffective and demonstrable communication skillsClinical Governance

Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practiceEvidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation (or equivalent)Published auditsResearch
