Senior Mechanical Engineers - Data Centres (Building Services) role at WSP, London office. Focus on the Data Centre sector with our Mission Critical Facilities team.Responsibilities
Develop designs for mechanical distribution systems from CHW, HVAC, Fuel to LTHWProvide advice to clients regarding mechanical systems/requirements to meet business needsLead the design of data centre mechanical systems and equipmentProvide written reports of system options in the form of design development notesProduce technical specifications for mechanical systems, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and client requirementsCoordinate with other disciplines including Architect and Structural engineersProduce calculations, technical/equipment specification documentation for tenderMonitor installation of designed equipment/systems to ensure compliance with employers’ requirements, design specifications and all relevant safety codesOperational responsibilities
Able to work using own initiative with minimal supervision on all technical aspects or have specific specialist experience applicable to the roleAble to work under the direction of the client and interpret the needs of the project as a whole to meet the full delivery needsWork in a joint leadership capacity within a mechanical, electrical and public health (MEP) discipline team providing design and technical advice in a WSP project manager capacity on a wide range of projectsComplete the detailed designs of mission critical facilities and all mechanical systems associated to data centresConsider the feasibility of the project specific to the discipline and lead the overall feasibility study for the projectTake responsibility for and direct others in the production of detailed and performance specification for the discipline subject to review by colleagues prior to issueReview the detailed design programme and ensure that sufficient resource is available to complete the worksWhat we will be looking for
Knowledge and experience in designing mechanical systems for data centresChartered status (or working towards Chartered status) with CIBSE or IMechE or equivalent experienceTechnical MEP knowledge of relevant UK and EU regulations, design guidesUnderstanding of the Uptime Institute Tier Classification SystemFlexible approach to meet the demands of projectsWorking understanding of TAS of IES and Hevacomp to allocate/direction of work on projectsUnderstanding of working with RevitMEP or other 3D design software to allocate/direction of work on projectsWorking knowledge of AutoCAD to allocate/direction of work on projectsAble to work as part of a team as well as ability to effectively lead, direct and mentor individuals within and outside of the WSP teamExperience of working to timescales and deadlinesMechanical design skills
