Senior Healthcare Technical Officer (SHTO)

Overview
As Senior Healthcare Technical Officer you will act as the first point of contact for hospitals requesting emergency deliveries, ensuring that their orders are entered and issued with the utmost efficiency. You will perform technical and scientific tasks such as monitoring the temperature of storage units and undertaking maintenance duties, and assist in the training and development of other support staff. The role requires a level 4 qualification (e.g., BTEC or HNC in a relevant science subject, NHSBT Foundation Degree or equivalent knowledge and experience in a manufacturing, logistics or supply chain environment), with intermediate theoretical knowledge acquired through formal training. Ideally you will have a working knowledge of basic IT packages and some experience of working unsupervised in a laboratory environment. You should be a good team player capable of motivating yourself and others to tackle a wide variety of tasks. Responsibilities
You will perform a range of scientific and technical activities related to donations (blood and, where appropriate, tissue) with the support of the team.
You will be responsible for the support and training of new and less experienced staff.
You will undertake precise repetitive manipulation of equipment and blood samples/donations and carry out routine tasks regularly.
You will handle blood bags and a range of equipment.
You will work variable hours and days, including weekends and bank holidays as per the roster with appropriate notice.
You will manually handle equipment daily, weighing up to 13 kg, with or without mechanical aids, with appropriate training.
This is a shift-based post covering days, evenings, nights and bank holidays with a 7-week shift pattern. The shifts average 37.5 hours/week on a 24/7 basis, with a requirement to participate in an on-call rota.
