Learning Support Assistant (EBSA Secondary)

• Monday to Thursday: 8:30am - 4:30pm
• Friday: 8:30am - 4:00pm

We are recruiting on behalf of a specialist secondary education provider seeking a compassionate and resilient Learning Support Assistant to join their Emotional Based School Avoidance (EBSA) provision from September 2026.

This is a highly rewarding opportunity to support young people experiencing anxiety, trauma, emotionally based school avoidance, SEMH needs and barriers to education. Working within a specialist provision, you will help pupils rebuild confidence, develop resilience and successfully re-engage with learning.

If you have experience working with children, young people, SEND, SEMH, youth work, care, pastoral support or mental health services, we would love to hear from you.

As a Learning Support Assistant, you will:

• Build positive, trusting relationships with vulnerable young people.
• Deliver tailored interventions to support emotional wellbeing and engagement.
• Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• Help pupils develop coping strategies, confidence and independence.
• Support learning activities alongside teaching staff.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Work closely with families, teachers and external agencies.
• Monitor progress and celebrate individual achievements.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Experience supporting children or young people in education, care, youth work, SEND, SEMH or a similar environment.
• A good understanding of trauma, anxiety and the barriers some young people face in accessing education.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Strong organisational skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.

• Experience supporting pupils with EBSA, SEMH or SEND.
• First Aid qualification.
• Trauma-informed practice training.
• Experience working with vulnerable or disengaged learners.
