Purchasing Manager – Japanese Food Sector

A well-established food manufacturer specialising in Japanese cuisine is seeking a skilled Purchasing Manager to take over a key role within their procurement team. This is a replacement position, offering the chance to step into a well-defined role with significant responsibility and impact.
About the Role
You’ll be responsible for managing a £4 million annual food spend, overseeing the sourcing of authentic ingredients from suppliers across Europe and Asia. In addition to ingredient procurement, you’ll lead packaging strategy and supplier negotiations, ensuring products are delivered to market efficiently and cost-effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and optimise a £4 million annual food procurement budget
- Source ingredients from international suppliers, with a focus on Japanese cuisine
- Lead packaging procurement and supplier relationships
- Negotiate contracts and maintain strong supplier performance
- Collaborate with internal teams to align purchasing with operational needs
- Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cost savings and innovation
Ideal Candidate
- Proven experience in food purchasing or supply chain management
- Strong understanding of international sourcing, particularly within Asian food markets
- Experience managing packaging procurement is highly desirable
- Excellent negotiation and relationship management skills
- Commercially astute with strong analytical capabilities
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, multicultural environment
