A large financial services organisation is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join a high-performing digital engineering function. This role sits within a customer-facing mobile product environment, delivering secure, scalable solutions at scale. Working across two product teams alongside a dedicated DevOps function, you will play a key role in shaping backend architecture, driving engineering standards, and ensuring scalability/security. Key Responsibilities Design, build and maintain secure, scalable backend microservices (Node.js or JVM-based frameworks) Contribute to backend architecture decisions aligned to clean architecture principles Support and integrate with a React Native mobile application environment Drive performance, resilience and security best practices across backend services Implement and champion strong testing strategies (including TDD) and high-quality code reviews Collaborate closely with DevOps on CI/CD pipelines, Docker and AWS-based deployments Mentor engineers and contribute to continuous improvement across engineering practices Manage technical debt and ensure engineering decisions align with business and customer outcomes Key Requirements Strong commercial experience with JavaScript/TypeScript React Mandatory Backend expertise in Node.js or Java (JVM-based frameworks) Proven experience designing and building REST-based microservices architectures Strong understanding of scalability, security and system design in production environm
