Contracts Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Legal Contracts Manager to join our team in supporting research. Contract Negotiation:
Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of research and innovation contracts with external organisations, including contracts for research, material transfer, MoUs, IP licenses, scholarships, consultancy, collaborations and funding agreements, ensuring appropriate terms, acceptable risk levels, and clear obligations.Line Management:
Provide line management to individuals, including workload prioritisation, development and training, day-to-day support and guidance; foster a collaborative and productive team environment.Expert Contractual Advice:
Offer pragmatic recommendations aligned with University policy and regulations; translate complex terms and risks into practical guidance for researchers and project staff.Process Improvement and Collaboration:
Work with colleagues to adopt a pragmatic, risk-based approach to contracting, contributing to guidance and process developments to increase efficiency and consistency.Contract Interpretation and Documentation:
Interpret contract clauses for non-specialist audiences, prepare recommendations for sign-off, and maintain accurate records, updating databases promptly.Professional Development and Networking:
Maintain and develop professional skills, stay up-to-date with regulations, and maintain a network with other Higher Education Institutions to share best practices.University Citizenship:
Make ethical decisions and embed the University\''s sustainability strategy into working activities.Other Duties:
Carry out other duties commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.Essential Criteria
Extensive knowledge and experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of legal contracts.Proven ability to identify key risks and opportunities within complex contractual arrangements.Demonstrable experience in providing expert contractual advice and guidance to diverse audiences, translating complex legal language into practical terms.Experience in line management, including leadership, development, mentoring, and performance management.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.A proactive and solution-oriented approach, with the ability to identify potential issues and develop creative solutions.Commitment to continuous professional development and staying up-to-date with relevant legal and regulatory changes.Desirable Criteria
Experience working within a Higher Education or research-intensive environment.Experience of developing and maintaining a network of contacts across an organisation.Further Information
