Design Manager - Mechanical - Aviation

OverviewLaing O’Rourke are currently recruiting for a mechanically biased Design Manager for an aviation / airport project in Greater London. A Design Manager ensures that all design information is reviewed and delivered in line with design management procedures for completeness and compliance with contractual obligations, including programme, buildability, safety, maintenance and technical suitability. The Design Manager oversees the production, control and distribution of design information at different project stages and ensures regular progress reporting of the design is in place. The role is a senior member of the Design Job Family and Technical Function, supporting technical excellence, assurance and performance across projects from pre-project, early engagement and work winning through to detailed delivery. All designers are part of our Engineering Enterprise, which aims to maximise the potential of design to increase certainty on our projects.

Responsibilities
Supporting our consultant teams to maximise their effectiveness and value in delivering integrated design solutions that meet client needs, strategies and budgets.
Maximising the effectiveness of consultant relationships.
Reviewing design delivery to enhance quality of solutions and efficiency across design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and handover of complete engineering solutions for our clients.
Supporting our consultants in adopting LOR''s design processes and delivering with rigour and quality project management processes to ensure effective collaboration throughout the supply chain (using tools including BIM / Digital Engineering).
Capturing business knowledge and capability to enable continuous improvement and innovation towards an Engineering Enterprise.

What skills and experience are we looking for?
First degree in Mechanical Engineering. Other appropriate construction related qualification plus design related experience.
Approximately 5 years'' experience in multiple procurement routes and sector experience. End-to-end design management experience from concept to handover.
