The Mechanical Design Engineer is required to improve the quality of the manufacturing process using various quality tools. The Role:

Assist in engineering project activities by collaborating with Lead and Senior Engineers to fulfill contractual obligations, translating design specifications and code requirements into effective product designs. These duties will include:

• Assist in the planning for the development of product models and drawings, by reviewing sketches, descriptions, specifications and supporting documents.
• Create 3D part models and assemblies
• Produce 2D working drawings from models
• Conduct basic engineering calculations and simulations to support design decisions
• Investigate engineering design problems after receiving general technical direction, the design goal problem, general method of processing, or engineering advice
• Prepares supporting information by developing bills of materials with Engineering Admin
• Document work by recording data and drawings in databases plus reporting progress to engineering manager
• Accomplish organisation goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; explores opportunities to add value to product and process
• Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analysing data and conferring with fellow engineers
• Occasionally visit sites to take detailed measurements
• Product development as informed by the Sales & Operation planning, participate in development projects for the expansion and improvement of new and existing products.
• 90%+ of our manufacturing processes are untaken by suppliers, so DFM will be a continued effort throughout the design stage.
• Provide technical assistance to the manufacturing floor, as required to achieve specified design requirements and resolution of conflicts that arise in attaining the specified design or contractual specifications.

• HNC in Mechanical Engineering (or Equivalent) highly desirable
• Proven experience with engineering design via 3D CAD packages (Solidworks preferred)
• Rotating equipment/pump/machinery design
• Confident user of Microsoft Office programs
• Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals, including mechanics, materials selection, and manufacturing processes (machining or fitting background a plus)
• Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principals involved in the production of mechanical and electromechanical models and drawings.
• Familiarity with technical drawing standards (e.g., GD&T) is a plus
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient mathematical skills
• Ability to respond and adjust to rapidly changing priorities
• Able to apply identified industry standards routinely in assigned work
• Thorough and accurate with strong attention to detail
