Job Title: Instructing Learning Support Mentor – Catering Specialist

Location: Cambridge (across multiple sites)
Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only (38 weeks) | 37 hours per week
Salary: £22,500 – £23,500 (pro rata)  

About the Role:

Our client is seeking a motivated and adaptable Instructing Learning Support Mentor (Catering Specialist) to support learners across our Supported Learning Directorate.

The Instructing Learning Support Mentor (Catering Specialist) is a dynamic, hands-on role where you will deliver high-quality learning support, lead practical catering sessions, and provide cover for teaching staff. You will work across multiple campuses, supporting students to develop skills in real commercial environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver engaging learning support and provide cover for teaching and support staff
  • Lead practical catering sessions (1:2 ratio) in commercial settings including kitchens, service areas, and plate wash
  • Support learners through 1:1 and small group sessions, including catch-up and booster support
  • Follow lesson plans and schemes of work to ensure continuity of learning
  • Assess and provide feedback on student work in line with course requirements
  • Support educational trips, including shopping for cooking ingredients
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and contribute to a positive learning environment
  • Promote safeguarding, equality, and high standards of professional conduct

About You - Instructing Learning Support Mentor (Catering Specialist):

  • Experienced in commercial catering (minimum Level 2 or equivalent experience)
  • Confident leading small groups and supporting learners with additional needs
  • Flexible, proactive, and able to work at short notice across different sites
  • A strong communicator with a positive, team-focused attitude
  • Committed to safeguarding, inclusion, and student success

Essential Requirements:

  • Level 2 qualification in Catering (or equivalent industry experience)
  • Level 2 English and/or Maths
  • Experience working in a catering or kitchen environment
  • Ability to work independently and adapt quickly
  • Basic IT skills (email, Word, spreadsheets)

Desirable:

  • Experience in Further Education or supported learning environments
  • Experience working with learners with SEN
  • Teaching or training qualification (or willingness to work towards one)

Additional Requirements:

  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Willingness to complete: Level 2 Food Hygiene and Epilepsy training
  • Ability to travel between sites (driving licence beneficial but not essential)
