Temporary Accommodation Move-On Officer to join our team and make a tangible difference in our community!

This isn''t just a job; it''s a chance to be a pivotal part of someone''s journey from temporary accommodation to a secure, private rented property. You''ll be at the forefront of preventing homelessness and providing essential housing advice.



What You''ll Be Doing:

  • Empowering Residents: Contacting residents in temporary accommodation to discuss private housing options and providing comprehensive housing advice.
  • Navigating the Housing Market: Securing privately rented accommodation by expertly negotiating with landlords and agents, both within and outside of London.
  • Ensuring Suitability: Making sure all procured accommodation meets essential suitability standards for formal offers.
  • Case Management: Preparing cases for the discharge of Main Duty and maintaining detailed, accurate records on relevant databases.
  • Building Relationships: Establishing and maintaining collaborative and constructive relationships with a wide range of people, including parents/carers, schools, social workers, and other agencies, to achieve positive shared outcomes. You''ll also engage, negotiate, and consult with various audiences.
  • Providing Holistic Support: Identifying holistic and cost-effective solutions through casework and joint working with other services, stakeholders, and partners. You''ll also be conducting visits to customers and properties, including residency checks and assisting vulnerable members of the community.


We''re Looking for Someone With:

  • Proven Experience: A minimum of two years'' housing experience, either in the social housing sector or private rental market, is key. Some relevant experience in a similar role, preferably within housing or other homelessness services supporting vulnerable people and minority groups, is essential. You''ll also have experience procuring properties for homeless residents and negotiating with landlords, agents, and residents.
  • Exceptional Communication Skills: You''ll need excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with a range of audiences and explain complex legislative information simply. You should be confident in discussing housing challenges with residents.
  • Legal & Legislative Knowledge: Some knowledge of relevant legislation, including duties to accommodate under Housing Act 1996 Part VII, and an understanding of the statutory guidance on suitability of accommodation is essential.
  • Strong Negotiation & Influencing Skills: Possessing negotiation skills with the ability to influence others is essential. You''ll have excellent negotiation and partnership working skills.
  • Organisational Prowess: The ability to organise your own workload to meet targets and deadlines is crucial, as is the ability to manage conflicting priorities in a pressurised environment.
  • Self-Motivation & Resourcefulness: We need a self-motivated, flexible, and resourceful individual who can work on their own initiative with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team.
  • Tech Savvy: Substantial experience and detailed knowledge of using IT systems, including data processing, finance, and Microsoft systems, is required.

This role requires a minimum of 2 days per week based at the Hackney Service Centre, with potential offsite visits and presentations. You''ll be adaptable to new legislative, technological, and financial developments.
