A growing UK specialist in robotics and automation systems is looking for a hands-on Project Manager to take ownership of bespoke engineering projects from concept through to delivery. The business has built a strong reputation supplying industrial robots and fully integrated automation systems, supporting customers across a wide range of sectors. With a significant stock of robots and full in-house design capability, every project is unique.
Following a period of internal change, this role is key to stabilising and growing the projects function, working directly with the Managing Director.
Project Manager - The Role:
As Project Manager, you will take full responsibility for delivering multiple bespoke automation projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and to a high technical standard.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team of engineers across controls, robotics, mechanical design and electrical engineering.
- Managing projects end-to-end, from initial handover through to final sign- off
- Coordinating a team of -6 engineers (controls, robotics, mechanical and electrical)
- Driving project planning, timelines, and technical delivery — not just tracking progress
- Ensuring clear communication across engineering teams, suppliers, and customers
- Attending key customer meetings including project kick-offs and handovers (UK-wide)
- Identifying risks, resolving issues, and maintaining delivery momentum
- Supporting continuous improvement across project delivery and team structure
This is a hands-on role, requiring someone who takes ownership and leads from the front.
Project Manager - The Person:
We are looking for a true Project Manager — someone who actively leads projects and teams, rather than simply coordinating or reporting.
You will bring:
- Proven experience delivering industrial automation projects
- Background in robotics, controls, mechanical or electrical engineering
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams
- Strong organisational and leadership skills with a proactive approach
- Ability to take ownership, make decisions, and drive projects forward
- Good communication skills, comfortable working with both engineers and customers
Desirable:
- Experience with industrial robotics or system integration
- Awareness of machinery safety standards (e.g. UKCA / CE)
The business is now focused on strengthening its project delivery capability. This key role offers the opportunity to play an important part in that journey, working closely with the Managing Director to build and scale the projects function.
Located in Bedfordshire, this role would be commutable from Milton Keynes, Bedford, Biggleswade, Woburn, St Neots, Luton, Kettering, Northampton, Hatfield and Cambridge.
