Job Purpose / Overview
A major UK-based nuclear new build project is seeking experienced Project Managers to support the delivery of engineering, procurement, and manufacturing activities across several core areas. These roles are crucial in advancing engineering progress and securing the supply chain ahead of Final Investment Decision (FID), with a strong emphasis on replicating the proven design model from a previous large-scale project.
You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including supply chain experts, responsible designers, quality teams, and key suppliers, to prepare and execute project delivery across one of the following areas:
MEH (Mechanical, Electrical & HVAC): Supporting the development and implementation of the MEH delivery model and alliance, incorporating key learnings from prior programmes.
Nuclear Island (NI): Managing systems, buildings, and contracts (up to £100m in value) within the NI programme.
Civil Works: Supporting strategy development and delivery of work packages (up to £50m), spanning engineering, procurement, manufacturing, construction, and commissioning.
Conventional Island & Balance of Plant (CI/BOP): Overseeing contracts (up to £100m) for engineering and ensuring safe, on-time, and within-budget delivery of business-critical systems and structures.
Principal Accountabilities
Lead delivery of engineering studies and contracts to meet project schedule and quality standards.
Prepare post-FID contracts including technical specifications and terms & conditions.
Drive site-specific design changes and integrate them into engineering deliverables and procurement contracts.
Manage interfaces between internal disciplines and external contractors to ensure coordination and coherence.
Engage early with stakeholders and suppliers to address obsolescence and risks to replication.
Support procurement processes and evaluate technical submissions from potential suppliers.
Capture and apply lessons learned throughout the project lifecycle.
Define work scope and ensure delivery to specification, cost, and time.
Oversee engineering for systems and components, particularly within CI and BOP areas.
Develop and implement plans in alignment with the wider Programme Execution Plan (PEP).
Monitor cost, risk, schedule, and change using project controls tools, including Earned Value.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential:
Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary design and procurement efforts.
Track record in project management or project engineering from concept through to delivery.
Engineering background (mechanical, electrical, civil, process, or systems) in complex industrial environments.
Strong understanding of interface management in major infrastructure projects.
Familiarity with contract procurement (design, manufacturing, or installation).
Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Capable of managing consultants, engineers, and technical advisors across complex projects.
Demonstrated success in managing:
Engineering design and contract execution strategies
Large-scale EPCM projects
Cost, schedule, risk, and change management
Commercial negotiations and claims resolution
Desirable:
Prior experience within the nuclear sector
Chartered Engineer status
Formal project management qualifications (e.g. APM, PMP, PRINCE2)
Experience procuring equipment or installation contracts for regulated infrastructure projects
