Job description - the role

On Behalf of Arup, we are looking for a Contaminated Land Consultant for a 6 month contract based in London.

Candidate Profile: Key accountabilities, skills & experience

This position is for a Contaminated Land Consultant to work within our Land Quality team in London. In this role you''ll be working closely with other Arup teams (e.g. other environmental specialists, planners, geotechnical and building engineers and infrastructure civil engineers) to deliver integrated multi-disciplinary consultancy services to a wide range of different clients. The main aspect of the role will be supporting senior staff to supervise contamination ground investigations and data interpretation. In this role, you''ll be largely site based, with some office work.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Designing/scoping contamination ground investigations, including using the ICE Specification for Ground Investigation (2022, third edition) and preparation of designer risk assessments.
  • Technically review ground investigator contractor information, such as risk assessments and method statements.
  • Technically supervising contamination ground investigations including:
    • Oversight of ground investigation contractors.
    • Technical delivery of intrusive and monitoring phases (please note that Arup does not undertake the site work, we design and supervise in conjunction with geotechnical colleagues).
    • Design of well installations.
    • Scheduling chemical testing.
    • Checking contractor information such as draft logs, factual investigation reports.
    • Support project team in reviewing contractor invoices.
  • Assessing and managing data, particularly using GIS, OpenGround, Excel, risk assessment software and other tools such as 3D modelling in Leapfrog.
  • Undertake site walkovers and inspections (e.g., to support desk studies, review contractor verification information).

Support wider team in preparing contamination assessment reports such as desk studies, risk assessments and remedial.

Requirements:

  • Degree qualified in environmental science, chemistry, contaminated land, geological or hydrogeological or other related field, along with a postgraduate degree in a relevant subject
  • Previous contaminated land site experience gained within a consulting environment and/or ground investigation contractors.
  • Demonstrate strong H&S performance, with the ability to deal with contractors.
  • Good planning, organisation skills and communications skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong data management skills and knowledge of key site investigation and monitoring guidance and standards.
  • Working towards full membership of a relevant institution (CIWEM, IEMA, IES, Geological Society, RSC or equivalent).
  • Motivated, enthusiastic and ambitious individual with the ability to work well both within a team and individually.
  • Clean driving licence.
