Engineer - Traffic Engineering (Band 3)

As an Engineer in the Traffic Engineering team, you will be embedded in multi-disciplinary projects which change the road network for the better. Day-to-day, your focus will be on delivering designs, drawings, information and calculations that keep vital, innovative projects moving. You will be a trusted source of engineering expertise for everyone, including our Heads of Engineering Delivery. You will have an excellent knowledge of UK national and local design standards, legislation and guidance documents. This includes but is not limited to TSRGD, DMRB, LTN 1/20, Manual for Streets and the TfL Streets Toolkit. You will be able to independently develop highway improvement schemes to relevant standards and guidance, and/or capable of leading a small to medium programme of multi-modal, multi-discipline projects, working alongside colleagues from other engineering disciplines, departments and internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
Take a leading role in providing Traffic Engineering designs and input to internal schemes throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring delivery to agreed timeframes, budgets and quality standards
Commission, collect and analyse data to identify trends and inform engineering solutions
Deliver Traffic Engineering outputs including drawings, traffic signal Method of Control, reports, calculations, presentations
Coordinate with other Engineering disciplines to develop feasible design solutions in line with project requirements
Liaise with project Sponsors and internal and external stakeholders
Provide technical advice and assurance to the business
Represent TfL internally and externally on Traffic Engineering matters
Qualifications
Essential:
Excellent knowledge and understanding of relevant UK national and local design standards, guidance and best practice
Essential:
Excellent understanding and experience applying Health and Safety and CDM regulations
Essential:
Ability to develop Outcome Definition, Feasibility and Concept design solutions
Essential:
Working knowledge and experience of AutoCAD software
Essential:
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with wider design teams and project stakeholders
Essential:
Substantial experience designing multi-modal road network improvements, with a focus on safety / cycle design / bus priority / healthy streets / major projects / local schemes
Desirable:
Knowledge of TfL strategies and action plans
Desirable:
Knowledge and understanding of Carbon Literacy and the ability to create carbon resource plans (CRP) and Carbon models for schemes
Desirable:
Experience of working in a complex urban environment to develop design solutions
