Role: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer (Level 1–3)Location: EdinburghType: Permanent/Full-timeWe’re working with a respected consultancy looking to expand their mechanical design team across multiple seniority levels. Whether you’re stepping up into a senior role or already leading complex design packages, this is a fantastic opportunity to work on high-quality, sustainability-led building services projects across the UK and Ireland.What you’ll be doing:Taking ownership of mechanical design packages for sectors like commercial, healthcare, education, and industrialDesigning mechanical systems including HVAC, LTHW/CHW, VRF, domestic hot/cold water, and renewable technologies (e.g., heat pumps, CHP)Carrying out detailed mechanical calculations — ductwork, pipework, pumps, fans, and plant selectionProducing schematics, layouts, technical drawings, and specifications using industry-standard softwareCoordinating with other disciplines (electrical, public health, structural, architectural) to deliver fully integrated designsAttending client meetings, technical reviews, and supporting site visits and inspectionsSupporting or mentoring junior engineers depending on your experience levelWhat we’re looking for:5–10+ years of UK-based experience in mechanical building services design (depending on level)Strong understanding of CIBSE Guides, Building Regulations Part L, and BREEAM/LEED principlesHands-on experience with:Hevacomp for HVAC/load sizingIES VE for thermal modelling and complianceRevit MEP / MagiCAD for 3D design and BIM coordinationMicrosoft Excel and in-house tools for calculationsProven ability to deliver coordinated designs across project stagesExcellent communication skills — verbal, written, and visualA degree in Mechanical or Building Services EngineeringChartered or working towards CEng with CIBSE or IMechEBonus if you haveKnowledge of lifecycle carbon analysis (e.g., CIBSE TM65)Experience working on projects in Ireland (TGD Part L)Experience with commissioning and site supportUnderstanding of RIBA stages and BIM Level 2 (ISO 19650)Seniority level
