Job Summary

You will be responsible for the promotion & sale of steel products to the UK & Irish market. The pro-active inside sales role is to provide a positive approach to not only our current customers but to identify opportunities and future prospects. The role must provide a totally comprehensive, efficient and professional service to customers in the effective sales territories. You will be responsible for managing a portfolio of both existing and prospect accounts and will play a fundamental role in achieving our ambitious customer acquisition and revenue growth objectives. You must be comfortable with making a realistic number of pro-active calls per day necessary to achieve set targets, working with rest of sales team, generating interest, researching prospects and closing sales.


Key Responsibilities

- Using SAP effectively to raise quotes and orders correctly and efficiently.
- Use of our CRM system to log calls / visits to current and potential customers. Also must keep opportunities up to date, and keep CRM data quality accurate.
- Constantly working to achieve our monthly sales targets and highlighting areas that need immediate attention in order to maximise our sales opportunities.
- Maintain regular contact with the customers for which you have internal account responsibility and provide effective support for those customers where you are performing a supporting role for the external sales team.
- Continually evaluate competitor activity - viewing their strengths, weaknesses and packages on offer e.g. product/services to see how products can enhance the service it offers to its customers.
- Assist with any sales campaigns, open days, trade days, customer presentations where required.
- Ensure that all operating procedures are adhered to and work with associates to continually review ways in which to improve efficiencies within this area.
- Ensure that we adopt a best practice approach within the team by highlighting areas where the team as a whole can benefit either through different ways of working or adherence to systems.
- Develops sales opportunities by researching and identifying potential accounts; soliciting new accounts; building rapport; providing technical information and explanations.
- Develops accounts by checking customer''s buying history; suggesting related and new items; explaining technical features.
- Update job knowledge by studying new product descriptions; participating in educational opportunities.

- Capture key account information such as contact details; industry segmentation data and spend potential and record this within the companies CRM systems.
- Be willing to take part in trade shows, email campaigns, customer visits, and mill visits for training when necessary. Which will mean working or travelling outside of regular business hours on occasion.
- Take reasonable care of your own and other people''s health and safety
- Co-operate with your employer on health and safety
- Tell someone (supervisor, or health and safety representative) if you think the work or inadequate precautions are putting anyone''s health and safety at serious risk
- Support the company with environmental initiatives and any compliance issues


Experience: Sales experience preferably in the steel industry, in particular tool steel industry or similar associated industries would be preferable. Experience on SAP is a positive but not essential.

- IT knowledge and skills, to support generation of management information to support decision making.

Physical Demands

35 hours a week, exact timing to be agreed.
Your role will be mainly office based, although you may be required to travel to visit other companies or to attend meetings and conferences.
On these occasions, you may need to work extra hours but there will be some flexibility on the exact working times.
