Outpatient Parenteral Antibiotic Therapy (OPAT) services enable the delivery of intravenous and complex oral antimicrobials to patients in the outpatient setting. This model of care is aligned with Hospital at Home and is essential to support delivery of the Scottish NHS Urgent and Unscheduled Care agenda.

This is an exciting new post offering a unique role working within a specialist multidisciplinary infection team.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Pharmacist to join the Antimicrobial Pharmacist team in NHS GGC to support the expansion of our OPAT service, primarily to GRI and Clyde hospitals. The post holder will also be expected to provide support to the wider GGC OPAT service.

The successful candidate will deliver an advanced clinical pharmacy service to patients receiving or being considered for OPAT in line with national British Society of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (BSAC) OPAT Good Practice Recommendations and Scottish Antimicrobial Prescribing Group (SAPG) key performance indicators. This includes;

contribution to weekly OPAT multidisciplinary team meetings and quarterly OPAT clinical governance meetings.provision of specialist evidence based clinical and professional advice to the GGC OPAT team, infection specialists, other healthcare professionals and to patients to ensure safe and effective antimicrobial treatment plans..review of antimicrobial treatment plans and maintenance of the OPAT patient database.prescription of OPAT antimicrobial treatment plans development of efficient supply procedures for OPAT prescriptions.development/ review of antimicrobial guidelines.development/ provision of appropriate training and education to patients and other healthcare professionals.lead on/ participation in audit and research to enhance the GGC OPAT service. This specialist clinical post is aligned with the clinical governance service therefore provides the post holder the opportunity to develop evidence on all four pillars of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Advanced Pharmacy Framework.

The successful candidate must have or be working towards independent prescribing qualification. Training, support and mentorship will be provided by the QEUH OPAT team and aligned with the GGC antimicrobial stewardship agenda.
