SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School
Location: Canley, Coventry
Start Date: ASAP or Negotiable
Hours: Full-time, Term Time Only
Salary: -90100 per day (depending on experience)
A small, inclusive secondary school based in Canley is seeking a committed and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to join its dedicated team, supporting students who face social, emotional and mental health challenges.
This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for young people, and who can offer calm, consistent support to students with complex behavioural needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Work closely with students aged 11-16, supporting those with SEMH needs on a 1:1 or small group basis
Build positive, trusting relationships and act as a strong role model
Support pupils in managing their behaviour, emotions, and engagement in lessons
Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies
Implement and adapt individual behaviour and support plans
Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing learning environment
The Ideal Candidate Will:
Have experience working with children or young people with SEMH needs or behavioural challenges
Remain calm under pressure and show empathy, patience, and resilience
Be confident managing behaviour in a supportive and constructive way
Be proactive, adaptable, and able to work well within a small, close-knit team
Hold relevant experience or qualifications (e.g. Team Teach, MAPA, youth work, SEN support - desirable but not essential)
