Data Center Technician

OverviewTo deliver service support within the site team at client’s data centre(s). To carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance, ad-hoc and reactive tasks, escorting and controlling sub-contractors to all MandE services. To take a pro-active role in identifying issues to escalate to the MandE manager. To escalate site emergencies following agreed procedures. In addition, the role may require small installation works, repairs to building fabric, and handyman duties.
Responsibilities
Resolve and complete day to day work orders to meet customer satisfaction targets and delivery within the SLA timeframes.
Maintain up to date log of work completed and outstanding items through Mainstream SI-7 CMMS system.
Qualify and act as an appointed Authorised Person (AP) within 6 months from on-boarding.
Carry out isolations and re-instatement of Electrical, Gas, Fire Alarms and Sprinkler systems when required and where authorised.
Issue permits for access, maintenance, service and project activities on location as required.
Ensure that all contractors and CBRE staff comply with CBRE and client safety and security requirements.
Participate in the critical services training programme.
Maintain effective communication with the client and management team at all times.
Operate as a team with other technicians by sharing expertise to help resolve operational problems.
Provide holiday, training and sickness cover for other members of the shift team.
Track and complete Critical Services Planned Preventative Maintenance; maintain and report on critical services and environmental monitoring.
Provide condition assessments of plant and equipment; log and action all out-of-line situations with incident reports including remedial action taken.
Update reports, documentation and infrastructure mapping as required.
Ensure compliance with statutory, CBRE/Client safety and security requirements; ensure follow-through between normal technical tasks and additional/project works.
Assist in preparing quotations for extra technical works; source supplies, materials and labour to carry out work cost effectively and efficiently.
Maintain effective client and management team communication (e.g., incident reports, handover documents).
Ensure all requirements are met within client SLA and Data Centre DO U (Document of Understanding); adhere to standard CBRE/Client Processes.
Accountable for maintaining appropriate stocks of spares and consumables with secure storage and controlled issue.
Qualifications
Trained in a technical discipline with apprenticeship or equivalent.
City and Guilds / NVQ level 3 or equivalent in BS7671:2008 (IEE Wiring Regulations 18th Edition) or related electrical installation requirements.
Experience in critical maintenance environment.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Good customer service and communication skills.
Flexible approach to work and good team player.
Willing to learn and develop own skills; good understanding of permit to work systems and HandS requirements.
Ability to participate in mixed-skill teams to meet targets and standards; understand technical drawings.
Understanding of power provisioning, PDU and environmental monitoring.
Good written and verbal communication; basic PC literacy desirable (ability to log PPMs, reports, incidents).
Willing to learn and develop skills and work on own initiative.
Physically fit to carry tools and components and to work at heights; able to ascend/descend vertical access equipment.
A team player able to work with CBRE and client staff at all levels; shifts including weekends and bank holidays may be required.
Training
The engineer must be formally trained in mechanical and electrical services maintenance. City and Guilds 236 parts 1 and 2 (or later) or equivalent qualification; 17th Edition or equivalent.
Up to date skills on building management systems, ACOPs, fire and environmental control, building control, and health and safety. Formal health and safety training (IOSH, etc.).
Experience
Experience of mission critical facilities maintenance, including UPS systems, BMS operation, emergency standby generators, and testing of electrical systems.
Comprehensive mechanical and electrical engineering experience, including reactive and planned preventative maintenance.
Strong understanding of health and safety obligations related to maintenance activities; appointed HV/AP with ability to create switching plans.
Aptitudes
Good verbal communication skills; organized with strong written English and computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook).
Ability to learn and develop technical knowledge and local organisational processes; committed to excellent customer service.
Calm under pressure; able to make sound decisions; physically fit to carry equipment; able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
Excellent customer service and adaptability; willing to work shifts including weekends and holidays.
