Senior Primary Plant Design Engineer - Leeds

Job DescriptionAbout the roleBalfour Beatty is currently seeking a Senior Primary Design Engineer to join their Power TandD team in Newcastle or Leeds.The main responsibility is primary engineering design delivery for electrical substation projects up to 400kV, supported by Design Engineers. The role also involves assisting with planning and procurement for substation project delivery.What you''ll be doingKey accountabilities:Deliver designs in accordance with customer specifications, standards, and legislation.Review and approve HV plant design deliverables such as single line diagrams, layouts, SC force calculations, and earthing designs.Adhere to Health and Safety procedures and CDM regulations, advising on risks and mitigation measures.Ensure models and drawings are reviewed and approved, incorporating BIM best practices.General Responsibilities:Follow company quality, health and safety, environmental procedures, and business processes.Deliver engineering designs on time, within budget, and to quality standards, promoting safety and sustainability.Authorize design approvals within the contract''s authorization levels.Commercial/Contract Responsibilities:Report scope variations to the Design or Engineering Manager and obtain approval before proceeding.Design Responsibilities:Identify relevant standards and customer requirements, ensuring compliance.Design AIS and GIS substations up to 400kV, considering health, safety, and environmental procedures.Who we''re looking forEducation:Minimum HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; a graduation degree is desirable.Member of IET (MIET); working towards CEng.Experience:Liaising with customers and suppliers.Design and specification of electrical power systems.Performing calculations to validate designs.Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM360.Experience as HV Substation / Primary Plant Design Engineer.Basic understanding of PandC aspects is preferred.TP141 HV Substation qualification is advantageous.Why work for usWe deliver major projects that develop and maintain vital infrastructure, offering benefits like flexible working, generous leave, and comprehensive benefits packages.About usOur teams provide power solutions globally, working across various sectors and project sizes, supporting clients from feasibility to maintenance.
