MERITUS are recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our client within the defence industry on an initial 6 month contract to work on exciting new projects.MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER - INSIDE IR35 - £50 PER HOUR - STEVENAGE (OR BRISTOL) - 6 months - MUST UNDERGO SC CLEARANCE - SINGLE STAGE INTERVIEW PROCESSResponsibilities:Carry out Mechanical Design and proving activities as part of a wider team for prime and variant products, of both piece parts and assemblies.Support/liaise with manufacturing, resolving manufacturing problems andamp; defects.Support to functional andamp; environmental testing and trials.Liaise with suppliers/purchasing to resolve any technical queries that may arise.Planning and reporting on own day-to-day activities to meet project milestones.Gain clarification of and help to generate requirements, including challenging of extraneous requirements to reduce lead time, UPC and design complexitySkillset/experience required:Experience using Creo 3D design toolKnowledge of several of the following:Manufacturing processesTolerance studiesEnvironmental testMass property calculationsMaterial selectionFMEADesign for Manufacture/AssemblyEnvironmental Gasket SealingTooling/fixtures designStructural designDefence StandardsReview processesProduct LifecyclesIndustrial validationAn ability to work as part of a multifunctional engineering team and be able to partake in or host design reviews.An appreciation of other engineering areas/domains.
