ASD Learning Support Assistant

Key Responsibilities:Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with ASD, adapting approaches based on individual EHCPs or learning profiles.Implement and monitor behaviour and communication strategies, including visual timetables, social stories, and sensory interventions.Assist in the planning and delivery of differentiated lessons under the guidance of the class teacher.Foster a safe, calm, and structured learning environment conducive to the needs of neurodiverse learners.Support pupils during transitions, break times, and off-site educational activities when required.Work collaboratively with teaching staff, parents/carers, therapists, and external agencies to promote consistency and progress.Record observations and contribute to review meetings and reports as part of the pupil''s ongoing assessment.Requirements:Essential:Experience supporting children or young people with Autism or additional learning needs in an educational or care setting.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Calm, empathetic, and adaptable approach to supporting challenging behaviours or emotional dysregulation.A commitment to promoting inclusion and safeguarding.Desirable:Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, or equivalent).Training in or experience with autism-specific interventions (e.g., PECS, TEACCH, Makaton, Zones of Regulation).Understanding of EHCPs, SEN Code of Practice, and safeguarding protocols.
