Principal Civil Design Engineer
to join our Site Development team in Manchester. You will contribute to diverse and technically challenging projects in the UK and beyond, including the transformation of Manchester Airport and facilities in defence, pharmaceuticals, and advanced manufacturing. The role requires leadership and technical excellence across the design process, mentoring junior engineers, coordinating across disciplines, maintaining client relationships, and representing Jacobs in project discussions. This is a role that balances engineering rigour with commercial awareness to deliver real value for clients and communities.Responsibilities
Provide leadership and technical excellence across the full design process for civil design projects.Mentor and develop junior engineers to ensure delivery of high-quality, integrated solutions that meet client expectations and regulatory standards.Coordinate across disciplines and maintain strong client relationships; represent Jacobs in key project discussions.Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and professional growth; balance commercial awareness with engineering rigour.Ensure design delivers value to clients and communities, while meeting programme and budget requirements and managing change control.Promote health and safety considerations in all design work and eliminate potential risks where possible.Aid the commercial success of projects by contributing to planning, delivery within programme and budget, and effective change control management.Qualifications
An engineering degree in Civil, and/or Structural Engineering, or equivalentChartered, or nearly Chartered, Engineer, with membership of a relevant professional bodyExperience in the use of structural analysis and design software (such as AutoCAD, Civil3D, MicroDrainage)Ability to undertake Civil inspections and report on material and construction defectsExperience and understanding of multi-disciplinary design processesUnderstanding of Information Management and Digital Delivery with the ability to work and deliver solutions within a 3D environmentAbility to develop designs to eliminate health and safety risks within the designAbility to liaise directly with clients, architects and other design team membersAbility to aid the commercial success of projects, including delivery within programme and budget, and effective change control managementWhat we offer
