The CompanyOur client is a leading Tier 1 contractor specialising in high-quality fit-out and refurbishment projects across the commercial, retail, and hospitality sectors. With a strong track record of delivering prestigious schemes valued from £5m to £150m+, they are well regarded for their technical expertise, collaborative culture, and ability to deliver complex projects to the highest standards.
Due to continued growth and a healthy pipeline of upcoming work, they are looking to appoint an additional talented
Design Manager
to join their London team.
ResponsibilitiesAs a Design Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating the design process on live projects and during pre-construction. Key duties include:
Managing the flow of design information between consultants, subcontractors, and the project team.
Leading design meetings and workshops to resolve issues and align stakeholders.
Reviewing design packages to ensure compliance with client requirements, statutory regulations, and buildability.
Supporting the tender process, including reviewing employer’s requirements and contractor’s proposals.
Developing design programmes and monitoring progress against project milestones.
Coordinating architectural, structural, and MEP elements to ensure seamless integration.
Managing design risks, identifying potential issues early, and developing solutions.
Ensuring design intent is delivered on site, through to completion and handover.
Producing and reviewing technical submittals, drawings, and approvals.
Liaising directly with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners to build strong working relationships.
Scope of works included:
full Cat B office fit out across multiple floors, incorporating new reception and lobby areas, executive suites, open-plan workspace, meeting and conference facilities, breakout spaces and high-spec finishes throughout.
Key Skills and Attributes
Previous experience as a
Design Manager
in the London fit-out/refurbishment market.
Strong knowledge of Cat B commercial office schemes.
Background in architecture, engineering, or construction management.
Excellent technical knowledge of construction processes and building regulations.
Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and maintain programme deadlines.
Client-facing with excellent communication and presentation skills.
Detail-oriented, proactive, and solution-driven.
Ability to work under pressure in fast-paced project environments.
