DESIGN TECHNOLOGY TECHNICIAN - Lambeth, London | Full Time | Start: ASAP

About the Role

We are working with an amazing secondary school in Lambeth to find a skilled and enthusiastic Design Technology Technician. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a hands-on, vital role in a busy and creative DT department; supporting teachers and students to get the most out of every practical lesson.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, maintain and organise tools, equipment and materials across resistant materials, textiles and graphics areas
  • Support teachers in the delivery of practical lessons and hands-on demonstrations
  • Ensure the workshop and preparation areas are safe, clean and fully stocked at all times
  • Carry out routine maintenance and basic repairs on DT machinery and equipment
  • Conduct and review risk assessments in line with health and safety requirements
  • Monitor stock levels and liaise with the department lead to place orders as needed
  • Support students with practical tasks under the direction of the class teacher
  • Assist with the setup and clear-down of equipment before and after lessons

What We''re Looking For

Essential:

  • Practical experience in a DT technician, workshop or similar technical role
  • Working knowledge of resistant materials, woodwork or product design
  • Strong understanding of workshop health and safety procedures
  • Ability to maintain and operate DT machinery, power tools and hand tools
  • Organised, reliable and able to use own initiative
  • Good communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working in a school or educational setting
  • Knowledge of textiles, graphics or food technology
  • Relevant technical qualification (NVQ, BTEC or equivalent)
  • Experience supporting students directly in a classroom or workshop setting
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to apply for one)
