NOW Education is currently recruiting experienced Teaching Assistants who are interested in flexible supply work within a specialist all-through SEND school in Handsworth. This is a fantastic opportunity to support pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex learning needs within a highly structured and nurturing environment.
The school supports pupils aged 3–19 and places a strong emphasis on communication, independence and personalised learning. Staff work as part of a team to provide consistent support to meet each student’s individual needs.
We are looking for Teaching Assistants who can work between 1 and 5 days per week, offering flexibility while making a meaningful impact in a specialist setting.
The Role
As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will support the class teacher and provide one-to-one and small group support. You will play a key role in helping pupils access learning, develop communication skills and regulate their emotions within a structured environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the delivery of personalised learning activities in line with individual plans and EHCP targets
• Work with pupils with ASD and complex needs
• Use appropriate SEND strategies to support communication and engagement
• Assist with behaviour management using a positive approach
• Support pupils with personal care where required
• Work collaboratively with teachers and SEN specialist staff
• Help maintain a safe, calm and inclusive learning environment
What We’re Looking For
• Experience working within a SEND school setting (essential)
• Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
• Experience supporting pupils with ASD and complex needs
• Willingness to support with personal care routines (essential)
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Flexibility to work 1–5 days per week
• A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs and helping them develop independence
