Outside - competitive day rate depending on experience will be discussed during screening call.We are looking for 2 x Senior Ruby on Rails Developer to work on a complex but interesting government project.In this role, you will play a key role in designing, building, and maintaining scalable web applications that serve our growing user base. As a senior developer, you will also guide technical decisions, mentor junior developers, and ensure that best practices are followed across the team.Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, test, and maintain web applications using Ruby on RailsCollaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutionsBe involved in architectural discussions and contribute to technical strategyReview code, provide constructive feedback, and ensure coding standards are upheldOptimise applications for performance, scalability, and securityIntegrate with third-party services and APIs as requiredWrite and maintain automated tests to ensure code reliabilityContribute to continuous improvement in development processes and toolsSkills, Knowledge and Expertise
5+ years of professional software development experienceAt least 3 years in Ruby on Rails experience (a must)Strong understanding of software design patterns, object-oriented principles, and RESTful APIsExperience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and database optimisationProficiency with front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScriptFamiliarity with background job processing (Sidekiq or similar)Experience with cloud hosting platforms (AWS, Heroku, GCP, or similar)Strong understanding of testing frameworks (RSpec, Minitest, Capybara etc)Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practicesExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug complex issuesStrong communication skills and ability to collaborate across teamDesirable (plus to have but not essential)
Experience working on government/public sector projectsExperience with ML/AI services and exposure to Python projectsExposure to microservices or service-oriented architecturesFamiliarity with monitoring tools (New Relic, Datadog or similar)About us
