Role Summary

We are seeking a Freelance Assistant Site Manager to oversee snagging, quality control and finishing works on a timber frame apartment scheme in Cambridge. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing defects, coordinating subcontractors, ensuring compliance with NHBC standards, maintaining quality throughout the finishing stages, and supporting the project team through to successful handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of apartments, communal areas and external works.
• Produce, manage and close out snagging lists.
• Coordinate finishing trades and remedial works to meet programme deadlines.
• Monitor quality against drawings, specifications, NHBC requirements and company standards.
• Ensure defects are rectified and signed off prior to client and NHBC inspections.
• Assist with NHBC inspections, quality audits and closure of any outstanding actions.
• Support client, consultant and employer's agent inspections.
• Monitor fire stopping, compartmentation and finishing quality standards.
• Assist with site health & safety and daily site coordination.
• Maintain quality records, progress updates and photographic evidence.
• Support practical completion and handover activities.

Requirements

• Previous experience as an Assistant Site Manager, Finishing Manager or Site Supervisor on residential projects.
• Experience working for a main contractor on apartment developments.
• Good understanding of timber frame construction and finishing trades.
• Strong knowledge of NHBC standards and inspection processes.
• Excellent attention to detail and quality-focused approach.
• Ability to manage subcontractors and drive timely defect resolution.

Qualifications

• SMSTS or SSSTS.
• Valid CSCS Card.
• First Aid at Work.
• Full UK driving licence.
