at the Financial Reporting Council (FRC). This role contributes to the strategic development and delivery of the FRC''s corporate governance and stewardship agenda. The postholder will lead policy initiatives, oversee the quality and consistency of reporting assessments, and provide informed and evidence-based advice to senior leadership. They will play a key role in shaping the UK''s governance and stewardship landscape, ensuring alignment with regulatory developments and market expectations. The role includes development and oversight of junior team members, along with representing the FRC externally at a senior level, as necessary. Responsibilities
Lead strategic projects and policy development across corporate governance and stewardship, ensuring alignment with the FRC''s broader regulatory objectives.
Oversee the annual reviews of corporate governance and stewardship reporting, ensuring analytical rigour and consistency.
Ensure the robust, fair and proportionate assessment of applicants for UK Stewardship Code signatories.
Provide input into the development and promotion of the UK Corporate Governance Code and UK Stewardship Code.
Represent the FRC in stakeholder engagements, including with government departments, regulators, industry bodies, and international forums.
Provide quality assurance and oversight of reporting assessments and other work conducted by junior team members.
Lead cross-organisational initiatives and contribute to organisational transformation and thought leadership.
Develop and deliver briefings and recommendations to senior team members.
Monitor emerging trends and risks in governance and stewardship, advising on strategic responses.
Skills and Knowledge
Extensive experience in corporate governance, stewardship, or related regulatory/policy environments.
Understanding of UK governance and stewardship frameworks, including regulatory and market dynamics.
Proven ability to lead policy development and strategic initiatives.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and synthesize complex information.
Experience of developing junior colleagues.
Excellent drafting skills for professional and public audiences.
Strong understanding of the role of regulators and government in shaping market behaviour.
Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and shape policy outcomes.
Experience representing an organisation at senior external meetings and events.
Strong relationship-building skills across internal and external networks.
Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively.
Ability to identify strategic issues and develop policy responses.
Skilled in translating analysis into actionable recommendations.
Comfortable making decisions in evolving policy environments.

Location and Working ArrangementsThe role is based in our central Birmingham office. The post holder should be able to work flexibly to support the team’s activities and also provide cover within the FRC as necessary. The FRC operates a hybrid working arrangement with its workforce, with an expectation that 40% of a person''s working time will be located at one of our offices per week, with precise arrangements to be agreed between the employee and the line manager.
