Freelance Health & Safety Manager - -90m High-Rise Scheme (Manchester)



Location: Manchester - Rate: -460 - -485 per day



The Opportunity

A major main contractor is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Manager to support delivery of a -90m development comprising two high-rise tower blocks.

This role requires a hands-on, technically strong HSE professional who can operate at both site and strategic level - driving standards, influencing teams, and ensuring robust compliance across a complex build.

• Act as the lead Health & Safety advisor across the project

• Provide expert guidance on UK legislation, ISO standards, and best practice

• Support implementation and continuous improvement of HSE management systems

• Monitor site activities to ensure full compliance from workforce and subcontractors

• Lead incident reporting, investigation, and close-out, ensuring lessons learned are embedded

• Oversee risk management processes, including identification, mitigation, and monitoring

• Conduct regular site inspections, audits, and performance reviews, providing practical solutions

• Support pre-start planning and high-risk work packages, ensuring safe systems of work

• Build strong relationships with project teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to influence behaviours

• Intervene where necessary to stop unsafe works and escalate appropriately

• Support external audits and ensure timely close-out of non-conformances

• Strong background in construction HSE, ideally on high-rise or major projects

• Demonstrable experience implementing and improving HSE systems and processes

• Proven ability to lead incident investigations and manage risk

• Confident influencing site teams and challenging behaviours where required

• Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at all levels

Qualifications:

• NEBOSH (or equivalent)

• CSCS Card (Manager level)
