Electrical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a leading provider of critical engineering services, is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to join their team near Peterborough. This role covers full-cycle design work—from concept through to commissioning—on control system and automation projects across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Design electrical panels and field installations
• Electrical control schematics
• Panel layouts & BOMs
• Loop diagrams & cable block diagrams
• PLC wiring diagrams & I/O schedules
• Perform cable sizing and LV distribution calculations
• Design safety circuits and conduct risk assessments (BS EN ISO 13849 / 60261)
• Produce technical documentation for installations
• Liaise with site teams to ensure project delivery
• Lead site commissioning and safety validation Requirements
• Strong understanding of machine safety circuits (SIL/PL knowledge beneficial)
• Experience with PLC wiring, instrumentation, and motor starter systems
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and electrical design software
• Fault-finding experience in large-scale control panels
• Solid knowledge of industrial automation standards

Qualifications

• HNC, BTEC, and/or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Engineering
• 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certified
• 5+ years in electrical design (preferably in industrial or FMCG environments)
