We are seeking a dedicated Accommodation Assessment and Lettings Officer responsible for allocating emergency temporary accommodation, setting up rent accounts, and managing housing duties. The successful candidate will work within a team, participate in a duty rota, and serve as a point of contact for clients in emergency accommodation, ensuring timely and appropriate offers of housing and addressing client queries.Knowledge:
Strong understanding of the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, housing legislation, case law, and guidance.Knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Legislation, Housing Act 1985, and Protection from Eviction Act 1977.Experience in suitability and affordability assessments under homelessness provisions.Up-to-date knowledge of welfare benefits and the Housing Health and Safety Rating System.Understanding of void management and lettings practices.Awareness of the needs of vulnerable populations, including social, emotional, and wellbeing aspects.Aptitudes:
Proficient in database management and IT systems.Creative problem solver with initiative and commitment to service improvement.Ability to prioritize in a high-pressure environment and meet performance targets.Effective liaison skills with council staff and external partners.Proactive in reviewing and enhancing work practices and utilizing new technology.Skills:
Excellent prioritization, problem-solving, and customer care skills.Strong negotiation and influencing abilities.Clear communication skills, understanding local policies and legislation.Experience:
Experience in customer-facing roles within public or private sectors.Handling distressed or challenging clients sensitively.Working with landlords and managing agents to access properties.Experience with administrative systems, correspondence, and complaint resolution.Ability to plan and prioritize workload, achieve targets, and work independently.Education:
Minimum GCSE Grade C or equivalent in Maths and English, or relevant experience.
