We are working with a leading distributor of building materials and are looking to recruit an experienced General Manager to lead and develop the East London distribution centre. Reporting to the Regional Director, you will have overall responsibility for managing branch operations and achieving targets for sales volume and margin.Responsibilities
Manage branch sales staff to ensure achievement of branch sales and profitabilityWork with senior management to set sales strategyMonitor daily/weekly sales performance within the branchWork with suppliers on target product promotionsAccountable for achieving and exceeding customer service levelsProactively identify changes and improvements to branch operationsOverall management responsibility for sales and operations teamsStrategic leadership — set clear objectives and provide motivation to ensure maximum productivityCreate a culture which encourages teamwork, ownership and accountabilityDevelop and execute strategic plans for the branch including short, mid and long term forecasting and resource planningManage monthly and annual cost budgets, seeking more cost-effective alternativesDevelop and maintain strong commercial relationships with suppliers, ensuring all purchasing at branch is conducted to the best commercial advantageEnsure branch stock profiles are maintained to achieve targets for sales volume and profitability, customer service levels, purchasing strategies, and product mixUtilise central stockholding and distribution to assist branch control of stock and to take maximum advantage of bulk buyingSupervise periodic stock takesCompliance
Undertake performance reviews in line with company proceduresCreate personal development plans for team membersIdentify performance, absence and disciplinary issues and manage accordinglyMonitor the local market to maintain awareness of trends, price fluctuation, competitor, customer activity, and trading opportunitiesComplete management reports to timescale, detailing performance and any remedial action as requiredEnsure that statutory requirements in transport law are met in full, to safeguard the Branch Operator LicenceEnsure that risk assessment procedures have identified all areas of concern in transport and warehousing activities, and that remedial action has been takenFamiliarise yourself with health and safety rules and regulations, and carry out responsibilities as an employee in respect of health and safetyProvide Leadership In All Aspects Of
