We are hiring engineering managers who are passionate about operational systems, open source technologies and cutting-edge hardware to lead engineering teams to enable and optimize Ubuntu for the latest x86, ARM, RISC-V, s390x and POWER systems.We integrate next-generation features and performance enhancements in Ubuntu while also ensuring a common operating experience for their users.They should be completely at home reviewing a patch or a software design spec. You will be expected to drive healthy engineering practices, documentation, quality and performance optimisations as well as lead your team to deliver high-quality design and code.An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. The ability to develop engineering talent, to represent your team and product from a technical perspective, and to drive collaboration with other teams and customers are all critical to success in this role.Location: This is a globally remote role. Lead and develop a team of engineers, ranging from graduate to seniorOversee commercial engagements and support timely delivery on agreed project milestonesParticipate as technical lead on complex customer engagements involving complete system architecturesIntegrate and maintain platform-oriented software stacksDisplay technical leadership internally and within our external communitiesExceptional academic track record from both high school and universityUndergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative pathFluency in C, C++, and PythonExperience with Linux and operational systems software (e.g. kernel or user space)Experience with Debian/Ubuntu or other distro packagingExperience leading software engineering teamsProfessional written and spoken EnglishAbility to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks longExperience working with open source communities and licensesComputer architecture knowledge of x86, ARM, RISC-V or s390xExperience with Linux virtualization, networking or graphics stacksing technologies: confidential computing, RDMA, Infiniband and high performance computing.Performance engineering, benchmarking and profilingWe consider geographical location, experience, and performance in shaping compensation worldwide.
