Building Regulations Principal Designer – Technical Lead
to act as the Designated Individual (DI) on the
Calderdale Royal Hospital project . This is a landmark healthcare scheme, where building safety, compliance, and quality will be critical to creating facilities that truly make a difference to patients, staff, and the community.As the BRPD Technical Lead, you will be responsible for planning, managing, and monitoring design activity, ensuring full compliance with the Building Regulations 2010 (as amended), and embedding best practice across design and delivery.What You''ll Be Doing
Plan, manage, and monitor design work to ensure full compliance with UK Building Regulations.Oversee and coordinate any services provided by the Building Regulations Principal Designer Advisor (BRPDA).Ensure all designers are competent, accountable, and supported to deliver their duties.Facilitate cooperation across design teams, contractors, and stakeholders to embed regulatory compliance.Provide timely and accurate building information to designers and contractors.Identify, manage, and mitigate design risks, with a focus on higher-risk building work.Support the development and delivery of the Laing O''''Rourke Building Safety Management System, including templates, processes, and training.Collaborate with other dutyholders to share knowledge and create communities of best practice.Embed competence requirements relating to the Building Safety Act into project deliverables.Stay ahead of regulatory changes, advising project and business teams on implications and mitigations.What we''re looking for
Around 10 years'''' experience in design and construction project leadership.Strong technical background with a degree in Architecture, Civil, or Structural Engineering (or related discipline).Chartered or working towards chartered status with RIBA, CABE, RICS or equivalent.Excellent leadership and communication skills, capable of guiding teams through complex frameworks.Proven collaborative mindset, with the ability to build trusted relationships with diverse stakeholders.Business acumen, balancing safety, compliance, and client value.Skilled in technical assurance, risk management, and regulatory compliance.Why Laing O''''Rourke?
