Start Date: September 2026

An ambitious and forward-thinking secondary school in the London Borough of Hillingdon is seeking to appoint an inspiring and experienced Head of Humanities to lead a dynamic department from September 2026.

This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate educator with strong leadership skills to shape and develop the Humanities curriculum across Key Stages 3 and 4 (with potential for Key Stage 5), driving excellence in teaching, learning, and student outcomes.

About the School

The school is a well-established, community-focused secondary setting with a strong commitment to high standards, inclusion, and student achievement. It serves a diverse cohort of learners and prides itself on fostering a supportive environment where both staff and students thrive. The school benefits from a collaborative leadership team, a clear vision for continued improvement, and a focus on delivering a broad and engaging curriculum.

The Role

As Head of Humanities, you will:

  • Lead and manage the Humanities department (e.g. History, Geography, Religious Education)
  • Develop and implement a high-quality, engaging curriculum
  • Monitor and raise standards of teaching and learning across the department
  • Support, coach, and develop team members
  • Use data effectively to track progress and drive achievement
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement strategies

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an outstanding classroom practitioner with a specialism in a Humanities subject
  • Has proven leadership experience or is ready to take the next step in their career
  • Is committed to raising attainment and delivering inclusive education
  • Demonstrates strong organisational and communication skills
  • Has a clear vision for developing Humanities education in a secondary setting

What We Offer

  • A supportive and collaborative working environment
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression
  • A committed and enthusiastic staff team
  • Access to excellent teaching resources and facilities

This role would suit an ambitious middle leader or an experienced Head of Department looking for a new challenge in a school with a strong community ethos and a focus on continuous improvement.
