Financial Accountant

This is a hands-on Financial Accountant role, ideal for a finance professional with strong technical expertise, operational discipline, and a keen interest in improving business performance through sound financial management.
The role is based in the UK and will support the organisation's financial integrity, compliance with regulatory obligations, and delivery of commercial insight across multiple functions. Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will contribute to financial reporting, statutory compliance, systems optimisation, business partnering, and continuous process improvement.
Your duties as the Financial Accountant will include:
- Lead the month-end close process including journal preparation, reconciliations, and documentation for revenue, expenses, prepayments, accruals, fixed assets, and inventory.
- Own the monthly management reporting process, including variance analysis and commentary against budget.
- Maintain balance sheet accuracy through regular reconciliations and intercompany alignment.
- Ensure appropriate revenue recognition and compliance with IFRS 15 and UK GAAP.
- Oversee stock accounting and coordinate quarterly physical inventory counts.
- Reconcile key accounts such as trade receivables, payables, payroll control, VAT, and R&D allocations.
- Prepare and submit statutory filings including VAT, PAYE, and National Insurance, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Assist in the preparation of year-end statutory accounts in compliance with UK accounting standards.
- Work with tax advisors on R&D tax credits, grant applications, and corporation tax matters.
- Maintain a compliance calendar to track all UK financial obligations.
- Coordinate external audit activities, including preparing schedules and resolving queries.
- Support half-year and year-end financial reporting for the wider group, including consolidation tasks.
- Liaise with global finance colleagues to align reporting standards and timelines.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes.
- Monitor performance against budget, highlighting variances, risks, and opportunities.
- Prepare cash flow forecasts and working capital analysis to inform financial decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams to accurately allocate time and costs across business areas.
- Maintain and enhance financial systems and tools (currently Odoo and Excel).Identify and implement process improvements to streamline reporting and month-end activities.
- Support automation and integration of purchasing, inventory, and reporting functions.
- Serve as a key point of contact for internal teams seeking financial insight or guidance.
- Build strong relationships with both local and international finance colleagues to ensure group-wide alignment.
- Engage with external advisors, tax authorities, and auditors to represent the finance function.
